Why are ALS and BLS Ambulance so Important?

Medical emergencies is a moment of quick reactions and critical medical supports. But is it always feasible to have a hospital nearby the location where emergency occurs? Think of a road accident on the National Highway. If you are not in luck, the nearest medical help might be some miles away, at the very best. That is where a role of an ALS ambulance or a BLS ambulance comes in. In many ways, they can be called as mini-hospitals. It won’t be an exaggeration if we call them as hospitals on wheels. In case you are not sure about what they mean, click here for BLS and here for ALS.

·         Hospital’s not close everywhere – as already mentioned above, they are especially crucial in those situations where a hospital is very far from the site of emergency. The BLS and ALS ambulances are well-equipped to handle many cases that involve easing the blood circulation, maintain the airway clear and improving the breathing.

·         Can be performed by a bystander aswell – especially BLS. Since basic life support doesn’t involves administration of liquid drugs, any person who has even basic knowledge of First Aid can act as a First Responder. Of course, it goes without saying that for ALS is an improvement upon BLS.
·         ALS can be better than our primary hospitals – if only they abide by the regulations. (AMB life article about registration of ambulance in Delhi )An advanced life support ambulance is equipped with medicines and facilities to provide many critical care supports. Unlike BLS, they are permitted to administer invasive drugs as well. They can also monitor the heart rate, apply defibrillation and provide appropriate medication.

·         Much cheaper than a hospital – in some medical conditions it is economical to utilize the services offered by an ALS ambulance than a hospital. Unlike the latter, they rarely come stringed with separate registration fees, doctor’s charges, etc.

·         Easier to get a bed on ALS or BLS ambulance than in a hospital – we are all aware of the pathetic conditions of our hospitals especially primary and government ones. While it can’t be said with certainty that you can get a comforting bed in those hospitals, what can be said with certainty, though, is you can easily book an ambulance nowadays. There are many startups that are engaged in delivery of quality emergency ambulance services.

ALS and BLS ambulance assume particular importance in remote places. Since hospitals are rarely available, it all depends on these mini-hospitals to provide the people living there with timely medical help. If you have been looking for platforms where you can book ambulances online, visit

Kick starting B2B in ambulance service: AMB life shows the way

When ambulances first started playing on roads it came as a huge relief to civilians in urgent need of medical attention. But time passed by and need was felt to provide last mile medical connectivity to people in remote areas. Thus came the introduction of air ambulances. But while the population grew quickly, the pace of ambulance integration was not that fast. This led to people scrambling to find one in times of need. The emergence of new service carriers didn’t solved the problem either, reason being – they were fragmented and people found it extremely difficult to search them out.
From the very beginning, ambulance carriers have focused on B2C – a business model that represents the transaction between a customer and a business. While the attempt was noble, it soon lost the pace because there were too many people and too fewer carriers. At times, if you don’t know about any ambulance provider you won’t be able to hire one. This defeated the very purpose for which ambulances were introduced in the first place. A need was felt for an aggregator – one which can bring all these service providers at one place. While everyone liked the idea no one was willing to risk their cozy business models. But not all stayed behind. AMB life is one such online portal whose primary objective is to form an interconnected network of private ambulance providers around the globe; to let them register and make their main and ancillary services available to ready-to-buy audience.

With robust technology they weaved a strong logistical framework where both customers as well as ambulance carriers can interact with each other. While providers got access to more customer base, profits, data and information the patients got the gift of accessibility. They are now able to search for an ambulance on the basis of their choice of country, state and cities, all from the comfort of their beds. The presence of strong feedback mechanism in the form of ratings, reviews and enquiry meant that it was not just patients who were able to decide who the best is but also the private ambulance carriers who got more business opportunities due to rooting out of inferior quality service providers.
On a footnote, AMB life invites all private ambulance providers to come and register on its platform. It’s totally worth it.

Defibrillators: A ‘must have’ ambulance device

Whenever the heart beat goes insane alarm bells start ringing. They, in most cases, lead to fatalities. In such a situation a defibrillator is used to calm things down and bring the heart back on track. Traditionally used mostly by trained medical practitioners, it is now increasingly being used by common people thanks to their easy availability and ease of use. Defibrillators are used to generate electric shocks that bring heart beat in rhythm. To understand its significance and working one has to know a little about how human heart works.

A healthy human heart beats about 60 times a minute, that’s 1 beat a second. This means that the heart opens and closes once every second, pumping blood in and out. But what if the rate increases? Now the heart has to open and close even faster. A time comes when the rate becomes so fast that the heart doesn’t get enough time to pump blood out. Furthermore it must be understood that blood flow path is guided by electrical signals. But sometimes a sudden impulse leads to irregularities that block the path of blood circulation. This leads to drop in cardiac output called as Ventricular fibrillation or VF. This is pretty much the scenario which necessitates use of defibrillators.

By sending a strong electrical shock wave, defibrillator forces each cardiac cell to ‘return’ to their original states thus restoring the heart rate. There is, of course, a gap of few seconds between application of shock and emergence of normal heart beat. Traditionally used only in ambulances and hospitals by doctors, they have become a common medical equipment at almost every venue, whether it be playground, hospital, schools etc. But perhaps it’s most important application is seen in ambulances especially the ones suited for life-threatening conditions like MICU or ICU ambulance services. Aware of its importance many ambulance service providers and ambulance aggregator websites like have made it mandatory on their fleet of air ambulances, ground ambulances and even private ambulances.

What is a basic life support or BLS?

An emergency can strike anywhere and anytime, sometimes they can be life-threatening and sometimes they can be less serious. And sometimes it’s just about getting an inter-hospital transfer. But regardless of the degree of severity, a  basic life support ambulance or personnel is always needed to provide you with timely and quick medical support. But what exactly is a BLS? How is it different from ALS? In this blog we will discuss about it in a brief.

BLS is not same as ALS!

To begin with, a Basic life support is one which is intended to provide first medical response to anyone in need. They are different from Advanced life support because unlike them, who are allowed and equipped to administer drugs, a BLS personnel is neither equipped nor allowed to administer drugs and are not trained with invasive skills. Also, while an ALS can be provided only by a paramedic or a doctor, a BLS is performed mainly by the first responders or FR. Even the bystanders at possible emergency places like school teachers at school, a passerby at the site of accident etc. can provide basic life support if they know a bit about first aid.

The basic idea of BLS – follow CAB!

While the medical procedures, sequences and algorithms are prescribed and prepared by medical professionals, the basic tenet is rather simple – CAB i.e. maintaining circulation of blood by bleeding control and CPR; keeping airway open either manually or by using nasal or oral adjuncts; and facilitating breathing by means of artificial respiration. Different countries have their own procedures. For instance, in USA, a bystander can perform BLS if he (or she) knows steps of resuscitation known as DRS-CABCDE (abbreviation of Danger, Response and Shout for help – Catastrophic hemorrhage, Airway, Breathing, Circulation, identify disabilities and environment.)

A BLS ambulance needs some basic equipment…and drugs.

As far as a Basic life support ambulance is concerned, the design and requirements vary from place to place. Nonetheless, there are some equipment and drugs that are common to all of them. These include Automatic external defibrillator (AED), stretchers, suction devices, big mask ventilation units, splints, bedpan etc.
